Fixing CRC data error cyclic redundancy check & PST recovery after it

Cyclic redundancy check or CRC is the general technique implemented for maintaining reliability of data files. The technique helps out in finding changes made onto the data files & keeping track of it while being used on network or saved in some of the devices. Every time the file is accessed CRC checking is done by Outlook PST to check for consistency of data items.

 

In certain situation when checking is performed one gets across CRC error while processing the specified file which may be the result of issues with PST files or because the system hard disk is having some issue that needs to be corrected. Outlook cyclic redundancy check actually reports of problem related of PST file location, which in cases are left unchecked leads to damage in the file. However, unlike other cases PST recovery then has to be done from updated data backup. As the case may be PST repair tool may also be opted for resolving the existing issue and getting access to the files in efficient manner.

 

In a particular condition as such, it is quite likely for user to receive the following error at the time of PST file access –

 

“ File path\filename.pst could not be accessed. Data error. Cyclic Redundancy Check .”

“ Data error (cyclic redundancy check) ”

 

The erroneous issue is specifically reported after emails are downloaded onto the Outlook PST, where path stands for PST file location. Trying to view ‘deleted items folder', throws another erroneous message may be –“error 0x80040116”.

 

What causes CRC Data Error?

Such a problem is exhibited by Outlook if the Personal folder PST file is damaged, which may happen on account of reasons as –

• Bugs in outlook application
• Virus infection
• Improper or unexpected system shutdown
• Network errors & issues or using PST file on network

 

Resulting from this very situation the files become inconsistent and could not be accessed. Besides, this if the hard disk where the files are stored has bad sectors or like issues cyclic redundancy error would be triggered.

 

How to fix data error cyclic redundancy check?

 

For resolving outlook CRC error, the hard disk inconsistency has to be verified off first. If, not the corrupted files has to be deleted and a new one recreated in place for use with data imported onto it. If not PST repair utilities need to be opted for.

 

Checking and rectifying hard disk errors with chkdsk/f command, executed from command prompt. Varying upon system, user may come across message as –

 

 

“ The type of the file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive. Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)”

 

Here, selecting yes is recommended so that the problem gets resolved after the system is restarted. In cases other than this, the disk will get repaired with execution of the specified command.

 

Other would be creating & repairing PST – the new PST file has to be created & data imported onto it from the older one.

 

If not the corrupt PST file has to be fixed using inbox repair tool or PST repair software as the corruption extent may be.
